Disc Spring Material
Stainless steel disc springs are made from X10CrNi18-8 (V2A), material no. 1.4310. Good corrosion resistance in humid environments; not seawater resistant. Operating temperature −200 to +250°C. No additional surface treatment.
Surface Finish
Carbon steel disc springs are zinc-phosphated and oiled unless otherwise specified. Stainless steel disc springs have no additional surface protection against corrosion.
Tolerances
Dimensional tolerances per EN 16983 (DIN 2093). Load tolerance varies by group: Group 1 +25%/−7.5%, Group 2 +15%/−7.5% (t ≤ 3 mm) or +10%/−5% (t > 3 mm), Group 3 ±10%.
Disc Spring Groups
Group 1 — t < 1.25 mm
Punched and cold-formed with rounded edges. No bearing surface. Suitable for light to medium loads. Spring force tolerance +25%/−7.5%.
Group 2 — 1.25 mm ≤ t ≤ 6.0 mm
Punched and cold-formed. Da and Di turned with rounded edges. No bearing surface. Spring force tolerance +15%/−7.5% (t ≤ 3.0 mm) or +10%/−5.0% (t > 3.0 mm).
Group 3 — t > 6.0 mm
Cold or hot formed, turned on all sides with rounded edges. Has a bearing surface. Suitable for heavy-duty applications. Spring force tolerance ±10%.
Disc Spring Series
Series A
High spring force with an approximately linear characteristic curve.
Series B
Medium spring force with a slightly degressive characteristic curve.
Series C
Low spring force with a strongly degressive characteristic curve.
Stacking
Springs stacked in series increase deflection; stacked in parallel multiply load capacity. For dynamic applications, use no more than 2–3 springs in parallel. Recommended maximum stack length: Lo ≤ 3 × Da. Lubricate with oil, grease, or molybdenum disulfide paste to reduce friction and wear.
